Frequently Asked Questions

Some of our frequently asked questions are listed below, but you can contact us on any time.

How do I become a mentor with Raise?

Click on the link on our website that says “Become a Mentor” and complete our application form.  We will then email you to let you know how to enrol in our mentor training, how to complete a Working With Children Check and a National Crime Check, book you in for a phone interview and discuss which program in which area might work best for you.

Do I have to do your mentor training course?

Yes.  One of our key differentiators is our free, TAFE accredited mentor training course, and while it is compulsory, it is actually of great benefit to you as you receive a qualification which will teach you skills to volunteer in the community, mentor people in your workplace, and connect with young people in your family or friends.  The course prepares you for the important role of being a professional and compassionate youth mentor.  And hey, it is free qualifications for your resume, which is an added bonus!

I'm a counsellor, do I really have to do your training course?

For those with professional qualifications in counselling, social work or youth work, you may be eligible to complete our condensed version of the Mentor Training Course.  Email to find out if you are eligible and enrol in the next course.

Which program is best for me to volunteer in?

It is completely up to you which of our programs suits you best.  You might like to work with a guy or girl in high school, or with a teenage mum.  Read through the information which outlines all our programs and see which one appeals to you most, and we will give you more details in our Mentor Training to help you decide.

When is your next Mentor Training Course?

We generally run all our Mentor Training Courses in February and March of each year.  You can email to find out the dates for the next course.

When do your programs run?

Our Bump programs start in March each year and run fortnightly in school term time until graduation in November.  Our School programs commence in the last week of Term 1 and run through to graduation in the last week of Term 3.

Do I have to do compliance checks to mentor with Raise?

Yes.  Raise Foundation is a child safe organisation and all volunteers must complete compulsory Working With Children Checks in your State and a National Crime Check.  Please email for further details.
